Abstract

Purpose: To investigate the formation and structure of social networks in Brazilian academia regarding BRICS studies, from a sociometric perspective using the SPELL database.

Methodology/Approach: This is a quantitative and descriptive study applying Social Network Analysis (SNA). A total of 68 articles published between 2009 and 2024 were analyzed using UCINET and NetDraw software for network construction and visualization.

Findings: Results reveal low density in co-authorship and institutional collaboration networks, indicating weak connections among researchers and institutions. Key central elements include specific years (2017, 2019, 2021), authors, journals, and institutions, especially USP and the ASAA journal. The most prominent keywords include BRICS, emerging markets, and competitiveness.

Originality/Value: This study provides an original mapping of BRICS-related scientific production in Brazil through a sociometric lens, offering empirical insights into its structure and development.

Implications: Findings highlight the need to strengthen academic collaboration networks, fostering the growth and maturation of BRICS research in Brazil.
